Splitting Stem-Cells
Understanding Cord Blood Banking

Medical Science is progressing rapidly and one cannot predict what future will hold for us or our children. There have been rapid advances in the field of Stem Cell Culture. It is an emerging Science and a lot of expectation is anticipated.

Now I ask you... Are you planning to Bank your Baby’s Cord Blood?

If Yes...
There are some things that all parents should know before jumping in the bandwagon of Stem Cell banking:-

> Storage of Cord Blood does not guarantee its usability for any disorder that is detected in the future. Its use depends on the following order:
Disease Detected >>> Conventional Treatment >>> Stem Cells Therapy (if research is done)
> Most present day research is being done using donor Stem Cells not on own stored Stem Cells…
> The science of storage is very recent, hence we do not know how long can the stored stem cells be effectively stored and used.
> The cost of Stem Cell Banking is anywhere between 65,000-75,000. EMI options are available.
> Confirm if there are any additional hidden costs involved presently and in future.
> Always get a Newborn Screening (NBS) done for Treatable IEM’s since these disorders cannot be treated with stem cells and cost a fraction compared to Cord Blood Banking

Tips & Tricks:
> Most Stem cell Banks offer freebies. Get a Quote without the freebies. Learn about the freebies offered and whether they are worth it and scientifically correct.
Eg1. Some companies offer NBS using Urine – This is non Scientific & not accepted Internationally
Eg2 : Some companies offer Gift Hampers with baby articles which most Pediatricians would not recommend

> Most Freebies are available in Retail segment, sometimes cheaper. Opt out of such Freebies. (Just
Google it and find the retailer yourself)
> Inquire with at least 3 Companies in your Area (Ask your Doctor, Friends & Family)
> Register Early if you have already decided to opt for Banking.
> Don’t do it because someone you know did it. Use your money wisely. (Invest the same amount elsewhere, Get a NBS test, Use it for Education, etc)
> FINALLY, JUST PRAY THAT YOU NEVER NEED TO USE IT.
